We made it! This is the view as we flew into New York’s JFK airport. Huge airport, but I think Heathrow in London has it beat.
Mike and Sam at JFK in New York.
This is the 747 we flew to London in. Not a fun experience. It was just a little too warm on the plane and I was wedged between Budley and Mike, who put out a lot of heat on their own. Sam slept the whole way, but he was the only one.
This is the view of Ireland from the air.
After meeting our driver/tour guide, Gerritt, who is actually Dutch, as opposed to Irish, we had lunch at Durty Nelly’s,
And took a self-guided tour of Banratty Castle.
Sam, Budley, and Mike waiting for Durty Nelly’s to open.
This is me at the entrance to the castle. Believe it or not, I actually climbed the very narrow stone spiral staircase to the top of one of those turrets.
And from that vantage point, I took this picture.
Sam on the drawbridge.
There was a folk park there too, which is collection of old farm houses and other historic buildings there on the grounds of the castle. This is the largest of the farmhouses at the folk park,
which had a lot of pretty stuff blooming in the yard.
Then we drove to Sneem, which was pretty far through the Killarny state park and the Kerry Mountains. Very winding roads and Gerritt doesn’t believe in driving slowly! I think our supply of non-drowsy Dramamine will all be gone by the time we leave!
Today, we’re going to Bantry and Garnish Island. Gotta get this posted and get dressed. Gerritt will be here to pick us up in about 30 min. He says that unlike many of the Irish, he’s very prompt!
Now for some nice moons to get our Monday off right!
